it was a terrible sickness that killed thousands of people in medieval england.
the cause of the sweating sickness is unclear, but it seems to have been caused by an insect bite. it appears to have affected both rich and poor alike. however, there were probably different kinds of sweating sicknesss in england at different times. some people got very sick while others did not get sick at all from the same disease… so how does one know which kind they had? i think having a doctor’s diagnosis helps – he would be able to tell you what symptoms you should expect if you’ve had this illness before (and do NOT take my word for any of this because i could be wrong).
according to wikipedia: “The term ‘sweating sickness’ comes from the common symptom: profuse perspiration, usually accompanied by fever and chills.”
