Why does my dog shake excessively?
This is one of the most common questions we’re asked. There are several things that can cause a dog to shake and tremble, but they generally fall into four categories: disease or illness; medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, Cushing’s Disease and hyperadrenocorticism (also known as “Cushingoid syndrome”); nervousness; and infestation — especially fleas — though any number of parasites can trigger shivers. Often, there is no obvious reason for your pet’s shaking. There may be many possible reasons why your pup shakes uncontrollably at night – from chronic pain to fearfulness to anxiety – only you know what it is! More often than not however, once you find out what problem might be causing this symptom in your dog , then you’ll know “why” he’s shaking like crazy all day long…and how best to treat his problem and help him live a normal life again.
