If you’re sweating excessively, even after an hour or so of exercise, you may have hyperhidrosis. This is when the sweat glands become overactive and cause excessive sweating. The result can be smelly feet or socks, as well as embarrassing moments between your gym clothes! Although there are several treatments for hyperhidrosis (e.g., antiperspirants), it may not be possible to completely eliminate your sweaty feet altogether if they are caused by another condition such as diabetes or a thyroid disorder that causes poor circulation near the skin surface.
Gymnasts who suffer from leg cramps may also experience foot problems due to under-toned muscles in their lower body which lead to reduced blood flow and hence less microcirculation around the affected area(s).
