Complications of procedure to correct sweating reported
AORN Journal, June, 2004
Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS), a procedure used to correct palmar hyperhidrosis, facial sweating, and blushing, can be accompanied by dangerous complications, according to a Feb 5, 2004, news release from John Wiley & Sons, Inc, publisher of the British Journal of Surgery. A study of morbidity and mortality associated with ETS also found that patients may be dissatisfied with the results of the surgery.
Although no deaths from the procedure have been reported in the literature, researchers found nine anecdotal reports of fatalities, including five from internal bleeding and three from anesthesia complications. In addition, 97% to 100% of patients may experience compensatory sweating in other body locations after the procedure. Other, less common complications of ETS include Homer's syndrome, rhinitis, phantom sweating, and cardiorespiratory problems.
The absence of any deaths being reported as a result of this procedure indicates that it is safe when performed by an experienced surgeon. The surgery is considered by some to be medically unnecessary, however, so patients should consider the risks and benefits carefully before deciding to undergo ETS.

"As a little boy, I already had sweaty palms. I was miserable because this condition
had been with me all my life. I dreaded attending church or social gatherings
because it meant I had to face others. Also, I had difficulty handling tools at
work because everything I touched became wet. I am very happy with the result
of my surgery. Thanks for curing my hyperhidrosis. I feel years
younger. I highly recommend Hyperhidrosis Center™ to anyone who is suffering from palmar hyperhidrosis."

"I tried medicines--from Beta Blockers--to lotions--to antipsychotics, but to no avail.
I was using Drysol. At the beginning it was great. I had dry hands for two
weeks in- between doses. Then slowly, the medication started to lose its affect
on me. Instead of applying once every two weeks it was once every two days.
I started to look on the Internet for other alternatives and found the website for the treating hyperhidrosis."
